Childrens School

Child Care & Preschool Programs

The YMCA Children's School is the perfect balance of learning and play.  Our preschool combines learning experiences and structured play in a fun, safe, nurturing environment-offering more than just child care.  YMCAs are the nation's largest provider of child care.  We provide high-quality and affordable programs that are family-centered and values-based to foster children's healthy development.  Children learn best through hands on experiences in an atmosphere that encourages creativity and explorations of the surroundings.  The Creative Curriculum has been identified as a best practice  curriculum through the State Board of Education.  We also offer a preschool program in collaboration with the Regional Office of Education.  This program is designed to offer Preschool For All through grant funding.  This program has limited enrollment and criteria.

Before & After School Programs

How our communities’ youth spend their time after school can be as important as the time they spend in school.  Quality afterschool programs serve working parents and give kids opportunities to engage with other youth and positive adult role models.  We provide a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn, grow and develop social skills.  The Y is guided by four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our programs focus on youth development because we believe each child deserves the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve.

Program sites are: YMCA Children's School, Apollo Elementary, Sherrard Elementary and Winola Elementary

Day Camp

The Y knows kids. We create experiences that are fun, educational and even adventurous! At YMCA Day Camp, children spend time outdoors, practicing social and decision-making skills under the guidance of the Y camp counselors. Our camps are safe and our value-based programming sets us apart. With a focus on caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Day Camp is held at Fenton Park with engaging activities planned throughout the day.  Activities include field trips, swimming at the Park District Pool and play at the main Y facility.
